Director: Ágnès Kocsis
Cast:
Izabella Hegyi, Júlia Nyakó, Anita Turóczi

"Very visual and minimalist... funny and moving
and the same time."
- International Film Festival Rotterdam

The feature film debut Fresh Air wonderfully portrays an impossible mother-daughter relationship against the background of contemporary small-town life in Hungary.
Both the mother (in her forties, no husband) and her teenage daughter are painfully lonesome but would never openly admit it to each other, or to the outside world.

The mother, who works as a toilet lady, seeks her way out of loneliness by secretly meeting men she finds from ads. Her life is full of routines and seems lacking perspective of any significant kind. The mother's routines irritate her daughter, who seems to be ashamed of her mother's job. The daughter always opens all the windows and doors when her mother comes home. There is no man around until a new admirer of the daughter appears on the scene. The tension between the two women can be felt and cut, but there is also a moment of intimacy when they watch an Italian soap together on TV. It is not only their flat that needs some fresh air.

This psychological drama offers aesthetic camerawork and a lifelike pace, which both enrich the atmosphere. A unique journey to the loneliness of souls in the modern world and a great challenge in mirroring such a unique relationship, this film is touching and funny at the same time.

"One of the most
promising directors of
the new generation
of Hungarian Cinema."  - Vitor Pinto, Cineuropa

An enormous nurse in the terminal ward of a Budapest hospital spends her working hours staring blankly at a wall of cardiac monitors, assisting doctors when they try to revive those whose hearts give out and changing adult diapers. She can only find escape from the monotony of her job, the overexposure to death, and a deprecating husband at home by retreating into her childhood... by searching for her friend Adrienn Pal. Does this friend still exist. This Cannes Film Festival sensation is an inspiring human story of triumph over loneliness.

"Four years ago, 'Fresh Air' made Ágnès Kocsis one of the most promising directors of the new generation of Hungarian Cinema," writes Vitor Pintofor Cineuropa. "The accurate and analytical perspective that characterised her debut film can be found again in her latest directorial feature, 'Adrienn Pál', the story about the idealisation of the past, one of those idealisations that usually emerge in difficult times when one is faced with a suffocating reality from which there seems no escape."

What does it mean to live in a reality of your own making? This strange, chilling and compelling documentary explores this questions by following
three members of "Second Life" who reincarnated themselves into a world created out of fantacy in which they have complete control.

Kris is a Gorean Master, controlling his sex slaves from his own bedroom. Benjamin has an enormous religious following, preaching sermons to an adoring crowd. Markus is a cat, the way he has always seen himself.

By the end of this award winning documentary, the lines between fantasy and reality become blurred and obscured, and its subjects must reconcile between the world created in their minds and the realities of everyday life.

An analysis of the style and vision of Abbas Kiarostami, the world's most iconic Iranian filmmaker, through the lens of his earliest work, including his first short film (Bread & Alley, 1970) and, particularly, his first feature, The Report. This early example of Kiarostami's work gives insight into his poetic, humanistic tendencies, combining allegorical storytelling with a documentary, neo-realist sensibility, and often exploring the very nature of film as fiction, that have pervaded his work ever since, including such recent international sensations as A Taste of Cherry and Certified Copy. Exclusive interviews with film critics, historians and scholars (including the late great Andrew Sarris) and those directly involved in the making of The Report provide a look at how the career of this master independent auteur began and was shaped.
